Scope

The departmental Research Planning and Ethics Committee serves as an interface between investigators in Psychology and The College review boards.  The purpose of the RPE is twofold: 1) to help department members and students prepare research proposals that conform to federal and college policy, and; 2) to streamline The College IRB’s work by reviewing EXPEDITED and EXEMPT proposals from Psychology faculty and students. The general process for submitting a RPE proposal is noted in the submission procedures section.

Researchers who plan to conduct human subject research that they believe is exempt from The College IRB’s review must submit a complete proposal to the RPE prior to conducting research activities.

Researchers from other institutions wishing to conduct studies on students, faculty, or staff in the Psychology Department must submit an application to The College IRB even if an IRB review was completed at their home institution (in accordance with Protection of Human Subjects, 45 CFR 46, part 46.114).
