    • Build rapport with clients who were in the shelter.

    • Completing comprehensive psycho-educational assessments for students ranging in age from 5 to 21 years old
    • Consultation with teachers, parents, and IEP team members related to academic and behavioral interventions and educational programming.
    • Opportunities through the Mental Health Wellness Initiative for counseling, mindfulness practice, and skills groups.
    • Co-facilitating professional development trainings.
    • Provide support to students and educational teams in the event of a crisis.
    • Participate in collaborative monthly meetings with practicing school psychologists working in a variety of settings.
    • Support students and families as they transition from early intervention to school-aged services and from school-aged services to adult life.
    • Opportunities to work within the intensive support program.

  • Application Process:
    • CCS generally have 3-4 internship positions for Fall/Spring.
    • Must receive the student’s application to become an intern prior to our internal peer support scheduling, which is the end of June/December.
    • Once you submit your application, they will review, meet with the student, and then access scheduling/intern outcomes in August/January.
  • Essential Job Functions: 
    • Interns must display interest in working with peers who have intellectual disabilities in the academics, vocational, and/or campus life/residential pursuits.
    • CSS looks for students who are respectful to differences, can adapt a peer/peer modeling relationship and are open to training/direction.
    • Requires a high level of patience, flexibility, responsibility, and commitment.
    • All interns must attend the CCS mentor orientation to learn about the program philosophies and student needs.

    • Gain practical advice about graduate school opportunities and assistance with the graduate school application process, including a GRE prep program.
    • Take an 8-week writing course taught by Penn’s Critical Writing Program faculty.
    • Attend weekly lunch meetings with program staff and Penn faculty to discuss their projects and learn more about the broad range of health services research at Penn.
    • Present a final presentation on mentored health services research project(s) at the End of SUMR/GEAR UP Research Symposium.
    • Attend health services research conference as a group, all expenses paid.
    • Take part in various extracurricular activities/social functions sponsored by the SUMR/GEAR UP program
