John Watson

black and white portrait of man

John Watson is known for establishing the school of behavioral psychology. Only sparking his interest in education as he entered college, Watson proclaimed the main tenet of behaviorism: experimental psychology that utilizes observable behavior grants scientific merit to predict future actions. Using this philosophy, Watson conducted his famously controversial “Little Albert” Experiment. A 6-month infant was conditioned to associate a rat with a loud noise to create fear. It was also found that Little Albert was able to link objects similar to rats, like furry objects and Santa masks, to the fear initially learned from the rat.
